A keyboardist, producer and multi-faceted musican based in Los Angeles and NYC. I make and write about a variety of different music, and started the music project VAL in 2024. I cofound the multimedia music project B1G CH0MP3Rs in 2023. I grew up playing classical piano music while simultaneously listening to a variety of contemporary music like Bob Marley, Nirvana, Britney Spears and more. I’ve always had a love for many different sounds since I was a kid, and I think my upbringing with music shows in the paths I took in my music career!In the classical piano sphere I have won a number of international piano competitions, such as American Protegé, Forte and Bradshaw &amp; Biono: and I have performed at Carnegie Hall over 20 times. As I grew into my teens, I began playing in various rock and rnb bands. At the USC Thornton School of Music, I studied Popular Music, Jazz and Music Production under Patrice Rushen, Paul Jackson Jr., Sean Holt, Rick Schmunk and many other wonderful and accomplished professors. During this time I also studied classical composition, experimental music, screen scoring, arranging, music production and songwriting. Just like when I was a kid, listening to a variety of different music, I enjoy creating and performing a wide variety of music as well. From contemporary trap rnb, alternative rock, jazz, pop and experimental. This partly stems from growing up in the Brooklyn underground music scene, attending free jazz and punk shows since I was about 16. I’m comfortable playing music of any genre such as pop, rock, rnb, alternative, jazz, hip-hop, electronic, funk, experimental, classical and beyond. I have also been a music director and session player for a number of musical productions, such as Rent, Lés Miserables, The Rocky Horror Show and 13: The Musical. I’m able to sight read, music direct, improvise and create whatever parts are needed to fit the song.I have worked with artists such as Denzel Curry, Joey Bada$$, Nalani &amp; Sarina, Ashley Fulton, Ryan Mitchell, Britney Quache and more. I also play drums, auxilary percusion, hand drums, mallet percusion and sing. Gear: I own a Korg Kronos and Yamaha Motif 7 top rack keyboard. This way I can provide extremely realistic piano, electric piano and organ sounds as well as multiple synth engines to layer sounds and program whatever patch is needed. This also allows me to play multiple instrumental parts at the same time (such as bass and keys, or piano and pads.) I can cover any instrument necessary. While I’m certainly still an electronic and hip-hop producer, I now produce a wide variety of genres.&nbsp;From non-tempo synced jazz to pop and aternative, I love producing anything across the genre spectrum. I’ve produced songs for many indepdent artists such as Terako, Alex Oliva, Holden McRae, Ashley Fulton and more. Just messing around on the piano until I found something that sounded good I then decided to study songwriting at The Thornton School of Music with professors Sean Holt and Chris Sampson. There I dove much deeper into music theory and different music genres. Since I grew up with so many musical influences, I began writing music with a variety of different styles as well. I love fusing together genres and pushing conventions forward with experimentation, as well as just writing catchy and fun songs. Storytelling is an important part of my process as well. Sometimes it’s just to serve a particular mood, while othertimes it’s much more conceptual and research based. I have recorded and mixed music for many independent artists as well, and can efficiently handle any part of the production process. I began studying film production in high school, but decided to pursue music as a career instead. My passion for film has never faded though, and I decided to channel it into scoring music to picture. Whether it be film, video games, art or spaces, I love exploring how sound interacts with other artistic mediums. I studied Screen Scoring at USC with professors Garry Schyman and Jeanine Cowen, and have been composing for student/independent films and games since then. I explored both traditional orchestral scoring as well as electronic and electroacoustic processes. As a music producer, keyboardist and experimental music composer I believe I have a unique insight and ideas when it comes to servicing the picture. Live music and the community surrounding it became a safe space for me to express myself, which led me to writing and chronicling my experiences through field reporting and music reviews. Having studied college at USC In LA and growing up in NYC, I have now attended over 200 independent music shows, as well as many big name shows as well. Through my study of musicology and genre at USC with professors such as Camae Ayewa (AKA Moor Mother), Scott Spencer and Nina Young. I have grown into a more academic writing style while still (hopefully) maintaining a non-pretentious normalcy in my writing. While I have studied music from all across the globe such as Japan, Cuba, Germany, London, Mexico and West Africa, my ethnomusicological basis and fieldwork research is rooted in the LA and NYC underground music scene (of multiple different genres) specializing on alternative music, genre fusion and experimental music.
